You can sing? Or how can you sing well?
Before you read this article, I would like to thank you for supporting my Blog in the past. Many of you texted to say thank you because after following what I wrote in the blog, you sang better and were more confident when singing. This makes me very happy because it brings a little something useful to everyone.
I have no expertise in music. Everything I write below are my experiences when practicing singing before. But I think this is what is necessary for you. Because our goal is not to become a professional singer full of jargon, right?
This question about 4 years ago made me think a lot. Why? Because at that time, I had been in college for a while and most of my friends' birthday parties had the same ending: Go sing! That day, every time I heard these two words, I felt shy and wanted to find a reason to avoid it. Even if there was no reason to avoid it because it was a must-go session, I would go there. theater room and do some things to avoid having to hold the mic such as:
- Drink until you're drunk! In fact, if you get drunk, it takes a bit of time, and in the long run, instead of singing in the theater room, you'll be making a water cannon spray in the toilet, and it's worse than hugging your pillow and working with an ineffective liver.
- Sleep! In fact, I pretended more than I could count on the fingers of one hand when in a room they were screaming and torturing me - it was literally torture because many of them sang like crazy, but at that time it was very good. admire their confidence @@. I mean really admire that, because I don't have enough confidence to do that.
Even though I really like listening to music and singing, I can't really raise my voice because I failed once when I was forced to sing or my friendship would end ^^. I remember at that time I sang the song "Still remember" by Tuan Hung. The truth is, because I wasn't confident enough to raise my voice, I sang a bit like reading and the high parts weren't confident enough to try my best, leading to a Vpop disaster...
After that time, I was even more convinced in my mind that I couldn't sing and that my voice couldn't be improved.
But after going to karaoke many times in a disheartening mood, I still had to pay money but couldn't sing. I decided to change, to practice so that if I can't sing well, at least I can sing with the right music.
When I got home, I searched online and googled how to sing well, blah..bla... I even did some candle blowing exercises to the beat to practice breathing. If you do the same, then you are just like me. But please believe me, I don't think it has any effect.
But after just a few months, I changed a lot. When he holds the mic, he is very confident and everyone praises his voice a lot (and this is a real compliment, not a bad compliment).
Many of my friends who knew me from before were surprised because they didn't even dare to sing before but now they sing so well! So how did I do? Do you want to know? Do you want to sing deep love songs to your lover or crush that will make them tear up emotionally? =)) Let's get started!
First, you must know that you don't need to have a great voice like Bang Kieu, My Linh, or Hong Nhung to be able to sing. Because they have qualities plus technique and practice very hard and follow the professional path, if you want to sing as well as them, it is impossible even if you practice forever without the qualities. As for being able to sing like today's young singers in market music, or to be able to sing audibly and not "punch in the ear", you can definitely do it. Believe me!
I would like to summarize the process in the following stages:
- Know music
- Sing the right music
- Sing with all your emotions
The first, What is knowing music? Knowing music is not about knowing what notes a song contains or how the music is written on the staff (you don't need to know that and I don't know either). Knowing music means knowing how the singer sings that song? Mimic the tone of voice, how to pause to sing along?
Believe me, this is extremely important because the lungs of normal people are largely the same and singers are not superheroes with twice the lung capacity of you? They can sing because they know how to pause and breathe at the right time.
Having read this far, many of you may be familiar with it. You already know it after hearing it. But singers are not as obvious as you think. To do this, you have to listen a lot and especially use headphones to clearly hear the places where they breathe.
You choose a song that you want to sing or like and listen to it over and over again with headphones to know how they pause to follow along and memorize the song's music. The more the better!
Initially, you should choose songs that are easy to sing and have a slightly lower tone to gradually practice. Previously, I used to practice songs by Khac Viet, The Men, Duy Khoa, Dan Truong, or old songs by Ung Hoang Phuc (if you need, I can find some songs for you to practice).
You just listen, listen, listen and then sing in your head to pause like them, then you will memorize all the lyrics, music, and pauses of the song, then move on to the next step, so remember to listen carefully.
Monday, Sing the right music. Now that you've listened too much and know how they sing, I'll practice along. If you're too shy, close the door tightly. Turn the speakers up really loud and then play that song and scream along. Imitating the singer, they sing their own song and pause accordingly. Remember to sing with all your might because no one is shy. Sing along a few times to get used to it and let yourself scream more confidently.
Then go to online Karaoke sites like sannhac.com or star.zing.vn, or karaoke clips on Youtube, turn it on and sing along. Now there is no longer the singer's voice, only your voice, but because you have a duet with the singer, you can just sing along as if there were still the singer's lyrics. Listen to any part or sentence that you don't understand, then rewind that part and practice again. You can rest assured that when you enter the theater room, you will sing much better because the sound system has a loud resonance and the loud speakers make you feel more excited when singing.
It may be a bit difficult at first, but after a few songs you won't need to do that anymore because you're used to the feeling of the music so it will be very easy.
Tuesday, Sing with emotion. This is the higher peak after you have done the first two well. Because there's nothing better than singing with the right music and singing with more emotion. So are their singers. When you watch shows like The Voices or VN Idol, you also see judges and coaches commenting on the emotions they bring.
You are easier than them. Because most of the songs that are popular, the singers already sing them with emotion, so the audience doesn't get bored listening to them. You listen to them sing a lot and then when you master singing the music correctly, continue practicing this part in the same way. In addition, there is the singer's intonation. You can imagine yourself in the scene of the song to get into the mood better. It's best to watch clips of the song or clips of the singer singing live to see their facial expressions. Practice a lot and you'll get used to it!

I am very happy to receive comments and thank you messages from those who have applied and achieved positive results. Hope everyone becomes more and more confident in having fun!
I often play cctalk.. I rap well but sing out of tune and don't know how to sing well. I've been practicing for a long time but it's still not good. What should I do?
Hi Linh, What songs do you usually sing? Can you record a song and send it to me? I don't use CCtalk :)
I have a low tone voice, but when I sing low-pitched songs and the normal parts, when I go high, I still have breath but I can't sing or have difficulty singing. What should I do?
Also, are there any pauses at the right places? Maybe you're holding your breath in your throat, so the higher part of the climb will hurt your throat and you won't be able to go any further.
let me ask more, the person I told you to sing with breath, if you can't sing with your throat, how should you sing with breath?
You have to practice this slowly and feel it. It's also a bit difficult to explain.
Try closing your mouth and inhaling. Can you feel the air going into your nose? Inhale lightly for about 2 seconds and then stop. You will feel like you are holding the air above the bridge of your nose.
yes, i feel mostly in my stomach but also a little in my nose
so what should i do
In my experience, when singing, try to keep your breath in your nose so it doesn't escape. Pause at the right place and take a breath quickly. Inhale very quickly then hold your breath or let it out slowly. Don't sing too high, it will cause a sore throat and you won't be able to sing the next songs.
Thanks. Can I ask more questions later?
Ok. I guide everyone and see that most of them are not confident when singing so they don't dare to take full breath for fear of going overboard. But you have to try your best a few times to know where your voice limit is.
It is especially important to listen a lot to sing in the right rhythm and melody. That's enough to get about 70%.
Let me know the results :)
yes ^^!
Can you show me again? I can sing a part that sounds good... when the song changes tone, my voice is like something, I have to push the air out to sing, my throat gets choked and I have to use force to sing... when I sing, my throat is dry and I'm tired.
It's hard to say this. I explained above that it might be because you're trying to exhale from your throat to go up high, which is very sore and tiring. Try to practice persistently with what I said before. If not, you can record it so I can listen to it.
So practice only on the nasal cavity?
I have the same problems as the person above, but I really like to sing. Can you show me how to practice or what to do to be able to sing?
I have mentioned the exercises above. Just keep applying them :)
