The God Father – The God Father is a very famous and highly praised mafia novel by Mario Puzo. In addition to The Godfather, Mario Puzo has other works about the mafia such as: Bloody Land of Sicily, The Last Boss, Law of Silence, Father and Son of the Pope,... but The Godfather is still considered the best novel.

Even though I've heard about The Godfather for a long time, I still haven't read it because I'm lazy to read novels. Perhaps when you found this review, you are also wondering whether to read The Godfather or not? For me, time spent with Godfather is completely worth it!

Review of the novel The Godfather
The Godfather's domineering image in film.

The Godfather is a story about an Italian (Sicily) Mafia family whose head is "The God Father" - Vito Corleone. The Corleone family is the leading force among mafia families in New York.

The story will revolve around the events and battles of the Corleone family with the alliance of the other "five great" mafia families combined with the story of his youth and the reason why Vito Corleone became a mafia.

The combination of elements of love & hatred, life & death, law & jungle law,… creates attractive and thrilling details for the story. At the same time, it also leaves in the reader many lessons and philosophies about life.

Lessons I learned from reading The Godfather

  • Give before receiving

Vito Corleone's nickname "The Godfather" was because he was a person who always helped others, so he was called "God Father" by those around him.

As the person who is always sought after when others are in trouble, Vito Corleone always makes others understand that he helps them out of friendship, intimacy, and love, not because of money or benefits. Therefore, there are people who are willing to follow him, willing to accept death for him.

It is the art of giving before expecting to receive in return from others.

  • Promise is gold

Godfather was famous for being trustworthy throughout his life. As long as he promised, no matter how difficult the task was, he would do it.

  • Love for family

Author Mario Puzo throughout the work has shown that family love in the Corleone family surpasses everything.

The Godfather's events and actions, including his crimes, have profound causes that all focus on the family. For him, family is number 1.

  • Commit a crime because of reluctance

Of course, this cannot be used as a reason for the origin of crime. What I see here is that in every person's behavior, good or evil, there can be a hidden story that we do not know. Only insiders can understand why they were pushed to such a point. Perhaps we will be more sympathetic to the mistakes of others.

  • Gangsters have their own principles.

Even though they are gangsters, the Corleone family also has their own principles when it comes to not being involved in anything related to drugs or prostitution, but mostly focuses on casinos and entertainment. The Godfather himself also hates men promiscuising with other women.

But this also caused an incident for the Corleone family when other families in New York's Five Great Mafia Families joined forces to fight against the Corleone family because they wanted to sell drugs and thought the Godfather was obstructing them. Surname.

  • Stay calm in all situations.

When reading this novel, men will certainly admire and love the Godfather's "dominant" image in every situation.

From how to talk and relate to people, how to handle unsuccessful "right or wrong" conversations. Then there was the way he endured the pain when he had just woken up after being shot and had to decide that his son would be assassinated by other Mafia families in order to settle the situation as best as possible.

I am completely conquered by this man's bravery!

Should I read the novel or watch the movie The Godfather?

After reading the novel, I watched the movie The Godfather because both parts of the movie won Oscars. But in my opinion, you will read the movie much better when you watch the movie, because you will better understand the details of the story when in Part 1 of the movie, even though it was very long, many details were cut out in the movie. story.

Review of the novel The Godfather
Michael Corleone – the youngest son is considered the most similar to the Godfather!

Part 2 of the movie I read was rated much better and more thrilling than part 1 of the movie with an extended part not included in the story about Michael Corleone - the youngest son after replacing the Godfather. Parallel to the story of the Godfather's youth (in the book but part 1 was cut out).

But I still don't find it too special. Maybe it's because the movies have been in production for a long time and now there are more brain hacking and action movies.

Therefore, I recommend that you read the book rather than watch the movie.

Those are some of my reviews of the novel "The Godfather". What do you think about this novel?
